Sharon's Creative Years

As a young mother, I sewed for my family, making shirts for my boys and clothing for my daughter. I learned to crochet and embroider, making dozens of doilies and embroidering many sets of pillowcases and other items. The years passed and I eventually went to work in a needlework shop. I had already started learning needlepoint and counted cross stitch just prior to my employment but working there helped me to refine my skills. Many of our customers brought completed needlepoint and embroidered pieces in to the shop to be assembled into pillows, bell pulls, Christmas stockings, etc. I developed my skills in blocking needlepoint and needlework assembly during this time.

Eventually I gained employment with a major needlework kit manufacturer in California. I was initially hired as a stitcher. Yes, I spent 8 hours a day stitching needlepoint and counted cross stitch for them, I was in heaven! Eventually I became stitching supervisor/customer service representative but I was still able to stitch for them at that point and still loving it. Later the company moved me to the art department to fill a vacancy left open when their graphic designer left. I had 3 days to learn how to use a Mac computer and specifically, QuarkXPress software. You see, the design layouts for the catalogs, the package labels for the kits, and the kit instructions were all done with Quark. I gained a new skill and found I loved it as well.

After returning to Nevada where I had spent my teen and young adult years, I developed my own small line of counted cross stitch patterns which I offer in ePattern form on my master web site http://www.stitchinpostcreations.com.

I have created this web site to teach others the art I love, hoping that it won't become a lost art. My gift to you for visiting this site is a free ePattern to help you get started into this wonderful and relaxing world of counted cross stitch.

May God bless you,

Sharon
